Jean-Pierre Perreault is elected as Rector of Université de Sherbrooke

Professor Jean-Pierre Perreault is the 11th person to hold the position of Rector in the history of the Université de Sherbrooke since its creation in 1954. He will succeed Professor Pierre Cossette, who has held the position since 2017.
Jean-Pierre Perreault holds a PhD in biochemistry from Université de Montréal and is an RNA specialist. He pursued postdoctoral training at Yale University before joining the Université de Sherbrooke’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences in 1993, as Professor of Biochemistry. Between 2004 and 2017, he served successively as Chair of the Department of Biochemistry, Associate Dean for Faculty Development and Vice-Dean for Research and Graduate Studies. As Vice-Rector, Research and Graduate Studies since 2017, he was instrumental in helping UdeS rank 10th in Canada for research revenues.
