Promoting Entrepreneurship to Foster the Creation of New Businesses
The goal of this initiative is to address a gap in current entrepreneurship support programs in order to rapidly increase the number of startups, a key factor in the growth of the therapeutic RNA sector in Quebec.
The conceptualization and development of a new business require a certain amount of time that cannot be shortened and significant effort—efforts that are distinct from the actual commercialization process but are nonetheless necessary. It should be noted that these efforts do not constitute research, but rather entrepreneurial activities aimed at concrete actions:
- Development of a business plan
- Intellectual property review
- Competitor analysis
- Technology development plan
- Cost validation with external suppliers
- Analysis of regulatory constraints
- Financial modeling and
- Development of a human resources plan.
As a result, Axelys has implemented a specialized, high-impact program designed to guide and support the entrepreneurial activities of a large number of students and postdoctoral researchers from academic laboratories in Quebec who are working to launch a startup in the RNA sector.
The program provides substantial financial support to help launch startups. In addition, the program offers access to mentors who help entrepreneurs develop their business plans and all related components. Entrepreneurs are also encouraged to take advantage of the specialized resources offered by incubators and accelerators operating in Quebec once their businesses have reached the appropriate level of maturity.

L’équipe de choc a la responsabilité de mener les activités de valorisation suivantes :
- Le démarchage et l’accompagnement proactif des chercheurs académiques dans les démarches de maturation et valorisations technologiques de l’ARN thérapeutique ;
- La mise en place de mécanismes de reconnaissance pour la recherche translationnelle ;
- La mobilisation et attraction de talent en ARN pour les carrières qui émergent avec l’essor de l’ARN ;
- Le soutien financier pour la mise en valeur des innovations couplé à des incitations financières pour les chercheurs.
La valorisation de la recherche universitaire et le soutien à l’entrepreneuriat dans le secteur des thérapies ARN constituent des axes majeurs pour transformer les découvertes académiques en innovations concrètes et compétitives sur le marché. Axelys mènera une série d’actions clés pour stimuler le développement de l’innovation, maximiser le transfert technologique à partir de la recherche académique au Québec et encourager la création de nouvelles entreprises selon les besoins du marché.
